Advancing Sustainable Natural Rubber Together

At its biennial Sustainable Natural Rubber Stakeholders Meeting, held this February in Indonesia, Michelin reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability by fostering transparent dialogue and offering firsthand insight into actions and challenges on the ground.

The event brought together a diverse group of participants—including NGOs, researchers from CIRAD and CIFOR, rubber farmers, a client, and a representative from the French Embassy in Jakarta—to reflect on progress made and gather feedback on ongoing initiatives. Held in both Jakarta and at the Royal Lestari Utama field site in Jambi - a Michelin subsidiary - the meeting combined strategic discussions with immersive field experiences.

Michelin’s transparent approach was welcomed by attendees, though some emphasized the need to deepen dialogue around community inclusion—an issue explored further during the field segment in Jambi. The visit also encouraged informal exchanges, helping participants better understand the challenges and complex realities of sustainable rubber production.

Overall, the field experience was seen as a meaningful step toward strengthening responsible land-use practices and community engagement. Participants expressed a shared commitment to continued collaboration, reinforcing Michelin’s belief that open, inclusive dialogue is essential to building a more resilient and sustainable natural rubber value chain.
